Op Hanalan: Targeted Action to Tackle Crime Around Finsbury Park Station |
||
|
Yesterday, officers from Finsbury Park Town Centre Team have been working alongside Central North Proactive Teams to deliver Operation Hanalan — a focused policing initiative aimed at reducing crime and safeguarding those who live, work, and travel through the Finsbury Park area. The operation was developed in response to emerging intelligence identifying several hotspot locations around Finsbury Park Station, where gang members and organised crime groups (OCGs) are known to congregate. These groups have been linked to violence, drug‑related offending, and acquisitive crimes such as phone snatches targeting commuters and vulnerable individuals. To disrupt this activity, teams conducted enhanced patrols, targeted stop searches, and proactive interventions across key times of day. Officers used both high‑visibility policing to reassure the public and plain‑clothes deployments to identify individuals involved in criminal behaviour. What We AchievedThanks to this coordinated activity, Op Hanalan delivered several important outcomes: These were intelligence‑led and focused on individuals believed to be linked to local criminality. Each search helped gather information, deter offending, and provide a visible presence in areas affected by gang activity. These arrests related to offences identified during the operation and have removed individuals suspected of contributing to criminal behaviour near the station. Further enquiries are ongoing. Officers were able to deal with a lower‑level matter proportionately at the scene, ensuring swift and fair outcomes while preserving community confidence. The e‑bike is believed to have been used to facilitate phone snatches, a type of opportunistic theft that has a significant impact on victims. Removing this vehicle directly interrupts the offending pattern and prevents further harm. Why This MattersFinsbury Park remains one of the busiest transport hubs in the area, with thousands of people passing through every day. Criminals often exploit these busy environments to target the public, and Op Hanalan forms part of our wider strategy to: By combining intelligence from local officers, community reports, and proactive policing methods, we have been able to make a meaningful impact in a relatively short period. Working with the CommunityWe recognise that policing is most effective when it is done with the community, not simply to it. Throughout Operation Hanalan, officers have engaged with businesses, commuters, and residents to discuss concerns, share safety advice, and gather further intelligence to support ongoing investigations. Your support and information help shape operations like these. If you see suspicious behaviour or have concerns about crime in your area, please speak with an officer or report in confidence via crimstoppers. Looking AheadOp Hanalan is part of a sustained commitment to ensuring the Finsbury Park area remains a safe and welcoming environment. Our teams will continue to carry out targeted patrols and enforcement activity in identified hotspots, with further operations planned over the coming weeks. Thank you to everyone who engaged with officers during this work — together, we can continue to disrupt crime and protect our communities. | ||
